Every year, the Pittsylvania Historical Society hosts a number of events. The goal here is to bring people face to face with their history, to celebrate proud moments and also bring to light some things people don’t know about. Now that COVID-19 restrictions have been lifted, we’ll have several in-person events here in 2022. Be sure to check back here, as we’re constantly adding and updating the list of events to come.
July 3: The Heritage Museum and the 1813 Clerk’s Office Museum will be open to the public on Saturday July 3 from 2–5, as part of the 4th of July weekend celebrations that will occur throughout Chatham.
July 18: The Pittsylvania Historical Society quarterly membership meeting will occur at historic Yates Tavern on July 18, at 5:30. The event will be a social gathering for PHS members and will feature dishes made from fresh locally-grown tomatoes. Event details TBA.
October: Virginia Local History Month. Details TBA.
Christmas in Historic Chatham: This event, taking place during the first week of December, is organized by Chatham First, but the Pittsylvania Historical Society has long helped to bring this tradition alive.
Membership Meetings: if you have a program or speaker suggestion, or would like to present a program, please contact us. Meetings take place in January, April, July and October. Notices pertaining to quarterly programs appear in our newsletter, on our Facebook page, and on this page. Specific locations, dates and times may vary.
Board of Directors Meetings: The Society’s Board of Directors meets monthly on the third Monday at 5:30pm at the History Research Center & Library, 340 Whitehead Street, Chatham. Committees continue to meet and work virtually to plan future events.
